Zen With Needle and Pen has been a dream of mine for almost ten years now. I love teaching embroidery and Zentangle! I truly believe in the calming nature and mental health benefits of these two zen arts. They have been life changing for me and for many in my crafting community!

Embroidery

Embroidery, the art of decorating fabric with needle and thread, boasts a history stretching back to prehistoric times, with evidence suggesting its origins in ancient civilizations like Egypt and China, where it served as a means of decoration, storytelling, and status display.  Sewing circles have served as a safe gathering space for women to talk, learn from one another, and express themselves through usable art. Young women, through the sewing of samplers, not only learned their stitches, but learned reading and arithmetic by embroidering their letters and numbers. Embroidery has been a confidence building and artistic expression for generations and generations to come.

Zentangle

The Zentangle Method, created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. These patterns are called tangles. As you learn and draw, you will explore the invitation to practice gratitude, be mindful, slow down, increase your focus and enjoy creating!

 

When you take one of my Workshops, you will be introduced to the basics steps of the Zentangle method and exposed to associated vocabulary and tools used. As a student, you will be immersed in creating actual Zentangle Tiles in multiple styles, Zendalas, and Zentangled Art and will leave with a clear understanding that, “Anything is possible one stroke at a time.”®
